Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning 

There’s pretty much no way to mess this up, unless you put in too much salt. I usually err on the side of caution because I like to add salt at the end.  Plus, we’re eating a lot of venison right now which is salty from the brine. Anyway, this is just a general guideline of measurements. You can add more or less of each, based on your personal preferences. I add more cumin than the typical taco seasoning recipe because, well, I like it.


1 T chili powder
½ t. paprika
½ t. crushed red pepper flakes
½ t. garlic powder
¼ t. onion powder
½ t. dried oregano
2 t. ground cumin
1 t. black pepper
Salt to taste


I put it all in a baby food jar, put the lid on, and shake it. Add a couple of tablespoons (more or less), plus a half cup of water per pound of meat, and cook until the water cooks off. Store in an airtight container. This also makes a great gift!
